Aerodynamic Performance of a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine Operating with Dust—A Computational Study

The main purpose of this study is to develop an understanding the aerodynamic performance a horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) operating in dusty environment, with various concentration dust flow domain. computational analysis was accomplished by commercial fluid dynamics (CFD) code ANSYS Fluent 16.0. Initially, user-friendly developed application utilized for optimum blade geometry special characteristics calculation. design HAWT rotor and meshing domain follows. moving reference frame (MRF) model applied rotary motion blades, added discrete phase (DPM) SST k–ω turbulence enabled. power output studied HAWT, several environments, estimated compared particular clean air. field around rotor, including contours pressure, particles dissipation rate erosion on both sides, are shown. In general, it concluded that operation environment results degraded performance, due deposition blades.
